Rev. Jason Maten and Rev. Martha Maten founded Acton Christian Community Center in 1980. The church began as a store front in the city of Pentel with five members, Rev. Jason Maten and Rev. Martha Maten, their two children, and Mother Emma Maten. The church grew slowly. In 1992, there were 82 members. The storefront was too small. Rev. Martha Maten saw a church building for sale and inquired about it. After she went on a three day fast, she had a dream. In the dream, she saw another church building, but she was not sure of where the church building was. Rev. Martha Maten did not forget what the church looked like. About two months later, Rev. Martha Maten and a friend were out in the city of Pentel driving around. They passed by a church. Rev. Martha Maten stopped the car in the middle of the road. She pulled the car into the parking lot of the church, stopped the car, and got out of the car. She began dancing in the parking lot of the church. Her friend got out of the car to find out what was wrong with Rev. Maten. After Rev. Maten finished dancing, she told her friend what was going on. Her friend started dancing. The two stood in the parking lot talking and praising God for over 30 minutes. Rev. Martha Maten drove her husband by the church building. She inquired if he thought that the location would be a good location to have their church services. He said maybe and then they drove on. Rev. Martha Maten drove her husband by the church two more times. On the second time, her husband remarked, "This building is too far away from the house. It's too far to drive." On the third time, Rev. Martha Maten told her husband about the dream she had. Rev. Jason Maten still said, "This church is too far to drive to." Rev. Martha Maten asked him to get out of the car and just walk around the building. He did. When they got back around to the front of the church, a man was standing by their car. He walked up to Rev. Jason Maten and said, "I have gotten all of your messages that you left me. I apologize for not getting back to you sooner." Rev. Jason Maten looked at his wife. She smiled and looked at him. She had not called anyone about the church, neither had anyone else. Rev. Jason Maten continued to talk to the man. The man said that he was selling the house next door also. Rev. Jason Maten looked at his wife and laughed. She just smiled back. Rev. Jason Maten and the man set-up an appointment to meet later to discuss the details. Rev. Jason Maten and the church purchased the church building and the house next door. The house next door is used as the church's outreach center. Classes are held in the outreach center as well as a clothing center, and a food center. Acton Christian Community Church joined the Maddocha Fellowship of Pentecostal Churches in 1992. Acton Christian Community Church is indeed a church working for the community. |
